Shoe retailer enters into partnership with retail giant AZADEA Group on fur-ther development in the MENA region; first DEICHMANN franchise business opens in Dubai in 2019

Essen, 12. October 2018 – DEICHMANN SE is continuing its international growth on a new scale. The company plans to enter the market in the MENA region (Middle East & North Africa) in the next few years. In this spirit, the shoe retailer has entered into a long-term partnership with AZADEA Group. A premier lifestyle retail company that has been operating across the MENA for the past 40 years and currently operates over 50 leading interna-tional franchise concepts in fashion & accessories, food & beverage, home furnishings, sporting goods, multimedia, and beauty & cosmetics. The opening of the first store on the Arabian Peninsula under the DEICHMANN brand is scheduled for 2019 in Dubai.

“We are aiming for further growth and keen to open up new markets. Having opened stores in France and Belgium last year, we are now represented in al-most every country in Europe. DEICHMANN SE is the largest shoe retailer in Europe and now present in 26 countries worldwide. In the 2017 financial year, the Group sold more than 176 million pairs of shoes internationally in around 4,000 stores and 36 online shops.

DEICHMANN is striking a new path with the expansion now planned: for the first time in its more than 100-year history, the company will be working with a fran-chise partner. “In the AZADEA Group, we are pleased to have found a partner with many years of experience in using the franchise model and at the same time with proven expertise in the fashion sector as well as in the Arabian and North African regions. We see it as a major advantage to be entering a new region closely aligned with a local partner,” says Heinrich Deichmann. “Together with our partner Azadea Group, we first want to gain initial experience in the region, on which the timing of further developments will depend,” he adds.

ESSEN, March 2018. In 2017, the DEICHMANN Group sold 176.6 million pairs of shoes in its stores and online shops worldwide – over three million pairs more than in the previous year. In 25 European countries and in the USA, the group generated a gross turnover of 5.8 billion euros (net: 5 billion euros) in the past financial year – the highest in a company history spanning more than 100 years. The currency-adjusted turnover increase was 5.9 per cent. And the company was also able to generate like-for-like sales growth of 2.8 per cent. At the end of 2017, Europe’s largest shoe retailer was running a total of 3,989 branches and 36 online shops, employing a staff of 39,564. In 2017 the group successfully entered the market in another two countries: France and Belgium. For the current year, DEICHMANN is planning record-high investments: 245 million euros are being invested in the international infrastructure and further digitalisation, 102 million of which in Germany alone.

ESSEN, 15 March 2017. The DEICHMANN Group recorded gross sales of €5.6 billion (€4.8 billion net) in the past financial year in 23 European countries and the USA, reaching the highest level of sales in the company’s history of over 100 years. The increase in sales revenues after adjustment for exchange rate effects is thus 5.6 percent. In 2016, the corporate group sold around 173 million pairs of shoes in its stores and online shops, which is about a million more pairs than in the previous year. At the end of 2016, Europe’s largest shoe retailer operated a total of 3,857 branches worldwide and employed a workforce of around 38,252 people. This means that the company created almost 1,000 new jobs in 2016. In the current year, DEICHMANN will invest some €232 million in the international infrastructure. In Germany, the corporate group grew clearly, bucking the industry trend, and will be investing around €92 million in 2017.

Essen/Hochheim 30 September 2016. On 29 September 2016, the founder of Buffalo Boots GmbH, Mick Conradi, and the DEICHMANN group signed a purchase agreement for the acquisition of Buffalo. It is still subject to approval by the antitrust authorities. The purchase price was not disclosed.
