Not all people in Germany benefit from the country’s current positive economic situation. Disabled teenagers and young adults for example need the care of society. This affects in particular young people with an inherent or developed learning disability, with a physical or mental disability, inadequate school education or with a migration background.
Having launched the Deichmann Award in 2005, we have been encouraging companies, public institutions, schools or private initiatives to develop innovative solutions with exactly these young people in mind. Numerous politicians and celebrities have lent their name to support our idea. The prize money, which is used to honour eleven projects per year amounts to 100,000 Euro in total. This year, the DEICHMANN Award broadens its horizons: it is now increasingly focussing on children and young people with a migration background. The name of the prize is now DEICHMANN Award for Integration. The RTL-TV host Nazan Eckes and Nuri Şahin, professional football player at Bundesliga Club Borussia Dortmund are acting as patrons.
