As early as 1977, Dr. Heinz-Horst Deichmann decided to provide long-term aid for people in the poorest regions of the world and founded the aid organization wortundtat. With his own funds and the help of a circle of supporters, work with international dimensions has developed over the past decades. The work has continued by the Deichmann family even after the death of the founder.

The work provides new professional and spiritual perspectives where opportunities to participate in society were previously lacking. Sustainable, individual help for people who cannot be reached by other offers. The work continues to be characterized by compassionate personal attention, combined with the message that every person is a creature wanted by God. wortundtat supports local partners in various development cooperation projects, i.e. it does not send out its own specialists. Around 150,000 people benefit from this work every year:

  • – In a remote region in the south of Tanzania, wortundtat has been providing the inhabitants with access to training, work and medical facilities since 1996.

  • – The aid organization has been supporting a partner in Greece since 1980 in its wide-ranging efforts to help people who fall through the cracks of state welfare.

  • – In Germany, wortundtat has been supporting a partner in setting up and running a large family meeting center in Dortmund’s Nordstadt district since 2009. People from many nations live there under sometimes difficult conditions in a confined space.

After around 45 years, wortundtat has placed the financial and non-material aid for the first wortundtat partner – a large organization in South East India – on a new footing. The partner has developed to such an extent that it continues the work on its own. wortundtat is involved in individual local projects with changing partners on a case-by-case basis.
